Speakers for the 2017 Summit
Dr. Sonja Ezell, The Teachers College, Emporia State University Session focus: Literacy in ECE Dr. Ezell is an active member of the Kansas Reading Association and the International Reading Association. Her research interests include early literacy experiences and beginning reading instruction. Dr. Dale Walker, Juniper Gardens Children's Project at KU Session focus: Bridging the Word Gap in ECE Dr. Walker's has conducted extensive research around interventions. Her research interests also include progress monitoring, assessment and observation practices. Dr. Walker will be speaking about bridging the Word Gap in early childhood Amy Wilson, Coordinator Early Childhood Special Education department- Columbia Public Schools Session focus: Supporting students with special needs Amy's work at the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) supports the developmental learning needs of children ages 3-5. Amy has an extensive background in meeting the needs of all students. Amy will be speaking about preparing for the transition from Pre-K to kindergarten. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Marcie Ricklefs, UMKC College of Education Session focus: Professionalism in ECE, Navigating adult relationships Marcie teaches courses on early childhood education at UMKC. Her presentation will be about how to navigate adult relationships in an early childhood education center. Teresa Fliger, Operation Breakthrough Session focus: Interventions that work for all students Teresa is the Behavioral Interventionist at Operation Breakthrough, Kansas City. Before joining the team at OB, she was a behavior consultant for the Leavenworth School District. Teresa will be speaking about culturally responsive, behavioral interventions that work. ___________________________________________________________________________ Ann Bingham, Washington University Family Learning Center Session focus: Creating spaces for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education in ECE Ann has served as director of the Elm Point Early Childhood Center in St. Charles, Mo. and as executive director for the Stella Maris Child Center in St. Louis. She is an affiliate representative on the Board of Directors for the Child Day Care Association of St. Louis. Bingham earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lindenwood University and a master’s degree in psychology with an emphasis in developmental psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. ___________________________________________________________________________ Jillian Hoefer, Director of Child Development Center at Wichita State University Session title: Effective Communication in ECE Centers Jill graduated from Wichita State University in December of 2013 with a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Counseling and holds a Play Therapy certificate. She holds a Program Director's License from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and has been the current Director since May of 2011. Jill is also an adjunct professor at Butler County Community College in the Early Childhood program and the current president of the Early Childhood Directors Organization in town. |
